Andrew Baertsch, MD is the founder of Northland Plastic Surgery. He came to Duluth in 1992 with a vision of providing the highest quality care to patients in this area.

His practice has provided "state of the art" techniques such as endoscopic procedures, tumescent liposuction, microsurgical free tissue transfers, and the use of the laser to name a few. His vision resulted in the first free standing outpatient surgery center in the area in 1994. In 1999 he founded Lakewalk Surgery Center, a four operating room, multi-specialty surgery center. Since then it has since expanded to six state-of-the-art operating rooms.

Dr. Baertsch grew up in Hayward, Wisconsin and earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Minnesota and his MD from the University of Wisconsin. He completed a five year general surgery residency followed by a two-year plastic surgery residency at the University of Wisconsin. After his training in Madison, he traveled abroad during which time he completed a fellowship in Microsurgery in Taipei, Taiwan.

He is certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Plastic Surgery. In addition, he holds a "Certificate of Added Qualifications in Surgery of the Hand." He is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the American Burn Association. Dr. Baertsch has served as Medical Director of Lakewalk Surgery Center as well as chair of its board of directors since its inception in 1999.

Along with two other University of Wisconsin trained surgeons, Dr. Baertsch founded a charitable organization called Eduplast. Since 1991 they have provided surgical care to the people of Nicaragua, Tibet and Mongolia. They also established a residency program and train Nicaraguan surgeons in the art of plastic surgery enabling them to provide modern plastic surgery services to their communities.

Dr. Baertsch and his wife Megan enjoy traveling and many outdoor activities including cross-country skiing, fly fishing, hunting, horseback riding and biking.
