Giving Back


The surgeons of Northland Plastic Surgery believe in giving back to our community, both locally and globally.  Two of our surgeons, Drs. Baertsch and Rishavy, volunteer their time to the Facial Dental Clinic in Duluth four times a year.  They see patients with cleft lip and cleft palate issues in conjunction with a team of health care providers.


In January 2016, Dr. Rishavy traveled to the Philippines for 10 days, providing medical care to those in need.  Along with other health care professionals through Global Medical Foundation, he and his team provided care to 50 individuals, performing cleft lip and palate repairs along with head and neck tumor resections


Dr. Rishavy traveled to Vietnam October 2011, volunteering with Operation Smile, a worldwide organization helping children with cleft lips and cleft palates receive free surgeries and medical treatments that would otherwise not be affordable for their families. Dr. Rishavy traveled to Belize for a surgical mission in December 2013 with Peacework International.

Dr. Baertsch participates in Eduplast which is a charitable organization. Since 1991 they have provided surgical care to the people of Nicaragua and Tibet. As well, Eduplast established a residency program and train Nicaraguan surgeons in the art of plastic surgery enabling them to provide modern plastic surgery services to their communities.
